gearing up...

where did april go? may is one day away... what happened to april? :)

last weekend was the 2007 all dakota high school fine arts exhibition at the granary rural cultural center in groton, south dakota. i had the honor of being the keynote speaker at the two day event. i spoke to two groups of regional high school students. it was a great experience for me. i had not yet had the opportunity to speak about my work. it was good for me to get my thought processes and motives on paper and in words. i learned that there are some things about me, events in my life, people i know or have known that have had a huge impact on the kind of art that i do. things i hadn't even considered before. it was quite revelatory for me. the students were great! they really responded positively to my work, which i wasn't concerned about, really. i know that my work is able to speak to nearly everyone on some level. whether it's the subject matter, the humor, the darkness or even the materials i use, my work will evoke some sort of enjoyment in whoever looks at it.

my first show of the crazy summer is coming up in a quick three weeks in marion, iowa! i'm very excited! this will be my first year in the marion arts festival. i'm praying for beautiful weather! :) it should be a great weekend. marion is close to the town i grew up in so i will also be getting a chance to visit with my parents, which is a perk! :)   after marion, i have a show pretty much every two weeks (see my calendar of events) all the way through the summer months. i have a lot to do! i have a couple commissions that i will be working on tonight. oh, :) if you hadn't guessed, since i am a stay-at-home mother of four very active boys, i paint after they all go to bed. tonight i am working. :) since i have found such marvelous success i have lost my sleep. :) it's one thing that i have learned to do without. :) but i do miss it. :) ha ha ha!

i received an email from a member of the board at woman made gallery. she informed me that the painting i donated to the benefit auction (beach babes #2, see previous post) went for $1,000!!! and! that it was the most hotly contested piece on the auction block! wow. anyway, i think that's pretty darn cool. i am honored to have been able to support such a great gallery and i am thrilled to know that my work was appreciated by many.
