as much as i dread the sleepless nights and sore hands, i absolutely love, LOVE, what i do! last weekend was the marion arts festival. a great kick-off to my busy summer! honestly, i was a bit nervous about the show. it is small and only one day... but it was awesome! my work was well received, which is always exciting! marion is close to the town i grew up in... i got a chance to see some people i haven't seen in a while. my beautiful gramma, my parents (who, god bless 'em) took the kids for the weekend. :) i saw my jr. high art teacher! and my high school economics teacher! and a few close friends from high school too. that was really neat! all these people who 'knew me when'... :)
iowa city's 'summer of the arts' is my next venue. june 2-3... i'm really looking forward to this show. i have a bit of new work to get done before then... i have a week. yikes! my husband is a sculptor, a very very talented one at that. :) he has to finish a piece for the university campus here this week as well. we are living and breathing art. it's so cool. :) and i think it's great that our children are being exposed to it daily as well. they see that it's work and not 'just a hobby'... as much of the world sees it. there is a quote by someone, the name is escaping me at the moment, it goes, "art is not just a thing, it is a way of life." i love that! ...because it is for us.
